As a key measure to ensure food security, over half of all antibiotics used annually are for food animal production in China. This paper reviews the useof antibiotics and the emergence of AMR in Chinese food animal production. With rapid growth infood, animal production, relatively poor animal production conditions and increasing production intensity, has resulted in an increase in antibiotic use in China in both absolute and relative terms over the past four decades. This increasing trend, however, has been deterred by recent government policies and improvements in public awareness of AMR.
